locality 1 [2013]

for violin, piano, amplified street, electronics and video

This is my first experimentation with using locality as musical material, in this case, shifting the function of locale from distraction to material. The instrumental music, for violin and piano, uses serial and minimalist techniques to create a sonic landscape that is simultaneously exposed and altered through a process of repetition, bombardment and transformation. This is accompanied by a video with the same intention of exposition and alteration, created using Jitter and Google SketchUp. The live electronics are an employment of two materials: white noise and locale. During the performance, microphones are to be set up outside of the venue and used as material in parallel with the instrumental music.
